I am a new member but have been following the forum for some time. I have a question today - my husband is tx dependent - he receives 2 blood and 1 platelet weekly - total 41 units of blood and 15 platelets - he has a very metallic taste in his mouth all the time and does not want to eat anything because of it - do any of you experience this? and would it be due to Iron Overload? his ferriten level is around 1800 which I don't think is really over the top after reading what some members are experiencing.

Is it possible that his gums are bleeding a little bit? Not enough see but enough to taste it.

"Back in the day" my nose was always raw - or somewhere just behind my nose towards my throat... And like Marlene suggests with the gums, the blood made a taste of metal in my mouth.

I forgot about the nose bleeds John would have from time to time. That too would cause the metallic taste.
Glad those days are over!!!
