fever after platelet transfusion

HI all,


My father had platelet transfusion ysday evening, he developed fever in the night with chill (temp was arnd 100) , the temp in the morning was normal. however he is having on and off mild fever. Any inputs ?

That's not unusual. Increased temperatures are a common side effect of blood and platelet transfusions. Medicine to reduce fever, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) are often given symptomatically or prophylactically.
