MDS patients/ treatments in Los Angeles area?

Hello!,

I am from the LA area looking and trying to find the best MDS treatment options for my father. It has been difficult to find the quality of care we're looking for; I'm not sure if it's the nature of his case or the lack of exposure to MDS at his current hospital.

I have reached out to City of Hope and UCLA Cancer Center, but they've all said their hands are tied because of his insurance through Kaiser. Has anyone received treatment at COH or UCLA? I'd love any suggestions or insights from patients, survivors, or family members!

Erin,

You'll have to sort out the insurance issue to know what choices you have.

My wife got excellent care at City of Hope.

Many MDS patients go to UCLA because of Ron Paquette (http://www.uclahealth.org/body.cfm?id=479&action=detail&ref=9178), an expert on bone marrow failure.

This post by forum member cathybee1 gives her opinions of the two hospitals. Forum member DanL mentioned having consultations at both.
