Los Angeles Hope, Steps & A Cure Walk 2014 (https://friendraising.towercare.com/Markslist/site/displaySite.do?siteIdCode=FAMF3O3X), a fundraising and awareness event to benefit the AA&MDSIF (http://www.aamds.org/), will take place on Saturday, April 27, 2014 at Shoreline Village (http://www.shorelinevillage.com/) in Long Beach, CA. It will be a day of fun connecting with fellow patients and families.

The event will include:
The Hope, Steps & A Cure Walk
The 5K Run
A Silent Auction
Special guest Jennifer D'Auteuil, mother of an aplastic anemia survivor and author of the book Anatomy of a Miracle, Drew's Story.
Activities for kids
Music
Lunch

Marrowforums members are invited to donate to the event via the Team Marrowforums (https://friendraising.towercare.com/Markslist/campaign/display/profile.do?campaignId=20452) page and to help spread the word about this annual fundraiser. 100% of all donations through Team Marrowforums go directly to the AA&MDSIF.


Walk Information

We will walk along the scenic marina in Shoreline Village, an easy 1-mile or 2-mile walk.

Registration begins at 8:15am in front of the All American Melodrama Theater (see map (http://www.shorelinevillage.com/village-map)). The program and walk will begin at 9:30am.

The registration fee is $25 per person. Each walker and virtual walker is encouraged to set a personal fundraising goal and invite friends and family members to sponsor you online.

1. If you can attend

2. Virtual walkers

If you can't attend you can register as a "virtual walker". Go to the Registration (https://friendraising.towercare.com/Markslist/site/showRegistrationOptions.do?siteIdCode=FAMF3O3X&masterCampaignId=20036) page, click the VIRTUAL WALK Registration link, fill out the form, and select Team Marrowforums from the Join an Existing Team drop-down list.

3. To make a donation
Go to the Team Marrowforums (https://friendraising.towercare.com/Markslist/campaign/display/profile.do?campaignId=20452) page and fill out the Donation Options section. Both named and anonymous donations of any amount are welcome.

The AA&MDSIF is holding a 5K Run in conjunction with the Hope, Steps & A Cure Walk. The chip-timed family-friendly race will follow the same beautiful flat paved path (https://friendraising.towercare.com/Markslist/site/displayPage.do?siteId=655&pageId=3609) along the Long Beach Shoreline Marina as the Walk.

Prizes will be given to overall winners, masters, and winners within age groups.

One of our celebrity starters will be Lisa Massacani, a survivor of childhood aplastic anemia.

Registration begins at 7:00am, in front of the All American Melodrama Theater. The run will begin at 8:00am.

Registration costs $30.00 for adults, $20 for age 14 and under, or $20 if you are also signed up for the Hope, Steps & A Cure Walk.

T-shirts will be available for the first 200 registrants.

I was just at the Houston event. It was great.

Only a few more weeks to register for Long Beach.

The 2014 Los Angeles Hope, Steps a Cure event raised over $42,000 for AA&MDSIF on a single day! For comparison, the five Hope, Steps & A Cure walks held around the country in 2013 raised an average of $22,800.

At the L.A. Walk there were 80 registered runners, 202 registered walkers, 21 walk teams, and over 50 volunteers. In additional to raising funds, we're proud to report that 12 potential bone marrow donors signed up with Be The Match (http://bethematch.org).

Thank you to everyone who participated this year and to everyone who supported our runners and walkers.

We expect to continue the growth of this event and shine again in 2015!
