Oral treatment

Hi Neel,
You know there are not many oral drugs for MDS – in India they don’t have so many clinical trials for MDS (like in Sweden where I live).

Your father could try Thalidomide or Revlimid – both should be combined with Prednisone the first 3 months for better response. Both these studies include low risk patients.

Thalidomide http://www.mdsbeacon.com/news/2009/0...-mds-eha-2009/
Thalidomide can give nerve damage but not so often if you only take 50 mg/day.

Revlimid http://bloodjournal.hematologylibrar..._than_deletion
Revlimid can decrease white blood cells and platelets initially. Then they now control if Revlimid can increase the risk for other types of cancer.
Kind regards

Thanx brig.

Thanx brig,

I was hoping to find more drugs with better response besides, revlimid and thalidomide. My father is High Risk, RAEB-II, with normal cytogenics, low platelet count and WBC count, therefore revlimid is not the option for us. Thalidomide, is an option, but doctors here are not that optimistic abt the drug. In fact doctors here are not very optimistic abt any drug, let it be vidaza or dacogen. Yes u r right there r no trials in India, and what i personally feel is that doctors here dont have much of an exposure in regard to MDS here. We tried ayurvedic treatment cos allopathic drugs had their limitations and side effects and it was a game of permutations and combinations. The ayurvedic treatment gave him 5-6 months of good results, with no side effects. We hoped that the treatment would not only treat him but cure him. But our bad luck came in the way. However we are stil hopefull that the drug might start giving its effect again soon.

With warm regards,

Neel
