There's no question that the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and Brigham and Women's Hospital provide quality care, although there are a number of ways to evaluate and rank treatment centers.

This article is a press release by Brigham and Women's Hospital (a teaching affiliate of Harvard Medical School in Boston), about a study done by the Center for International Blood and Marrow Transplant Research (CIBMTR) using data from 2002 to 2006 and covering all diseases for which stem cell transplants were given. The statistics reflect the success of the transplant program, but also the particular cross-section of patients treated and diseases involved, which vary from center to center.

The CIBMTR reviewed 8,847 unrelated donor transplant cases at 122 centers affiliated with the National Marrow Donor Program. Their full Report of Survival Statistics is available to physicians and corporate members but doesn't seem to be available to the public.

The Dana-Farber Cancer Institute also ranked high in the list of Best Cancer Hospitals published by the U.S. News and World Report. Their Top 5:
  1. University of Texas, MD Anderson Cancer Center
  2. Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center
  3. Johns Hopkins University, Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center
  4. Mayo Clinic, Mayo Clinic Cancer Center
  5. Dana-Farber Cancer Institute
