16 years post unrelated bone marrow transplant for AA

Hello everyone,

I am new to marrowforums. I am 16 years post unrelated bmt for AA. I am doing pretty well but I have had the complications of Avascular necrosis in multiple joints.

I noticed that some members were asking questions about AVN.

I had a vascularized fibular graft on my left hip in 1999. Same surgery on my left hip in 2000. I don't think the are doing VFG anymore but the last I heard they are doing Tribecular rod implants.

I have also had bilateral hemi-arthroplasties on my shoulders. I know it sounds like alot but I have managed really well.

If anyone would like to email me for information or support, please feel free to do so.

Hello MichyJ,

Wellcome this site.

i had a transplant 3,5 year ago.Now i have an Avn multiple joints because of prednisone..

Now i am waiting to collapse of right leg.Doctors do not offer me anoter operatiaon before hip replacement of femur.

Left side is stage one and they offer me core decompression and fibular graft
with marrowcell may be the easiest solution.

Do you remember is vascularized fibular graft hard operation?

Thank you for reply.

Hi Tserdogan,
Do you mind my asking what dosage caused this and how long did you take it?
My husband is on a maintenance of Prednisone for ulcerative colitis. He also has MDS.
Thanks for your reply.
God Bless,
Sally

Hi Sally C,
First six month post transplant i used daily average dosage 32-48 mg.
My daily average dosage is 6 mg for three years.
But i know that 6 mg is not high,fırst six month dosage may cause this AVN.
