Day +6 and it has hit

Hello all,

Day +6 of my mums sct and it's hit her. All of a sudden terrible haemorrhoids are upon her and she is vomiting, not eating and absolutely exhausted. She has been relatively good up to now. She has all the markers of an infection and is already on a blanket antibiotic.

She had really low blood pressure today on a couple of occasions and she has had 2 platelet infusions and a blood transfusion today.

Please tell me this is normal. Is she going to be able to sustain this until supposed engraftment which her specialist tells us is a week away?

Eva's daughter,

It seems that most transplants have one or more low points, but they arrive at different times for different people. I'm sorry your mum has run into one so soon.

During her transplant, my wife was unable to eat for weeks, exhausted most of the time, vomited, and needed blood and platelet transfusions. When she had low blood pressure it was traced to particular medicine she had been given. No haemorrhoids, fortunately.

The doctors and nurses treated her various symptoms and eventually she got past all of these side effects. She's fine now, and I hope your mum will be fine too.

Yes, though I am at day 27 now, but at day 6, I was the same, vomiting, and exhausted. My blood pressure dropped once. No hemarrhoids. Platelets and reds transfusions, too.
Hang in there, she will graft soon.

Oh your poor Mum. I had terrible bum issues. I think from all the diarrhea and nasty chemo. So painful. I think that was the worst part of the transplant! Time will heal.
