Day 28 new development..

Well on Day 28 I have either developed GVHD or an adverse reaction to Bactrum (probably misspelled)... They tested it and that was what the dermatology report said.. I thought that was sort of funny.. Flip a coin it could be either... So now I am taking a different drug and a zpack of steroids to cover both possibilities. The Dr. gave me a speech about there being up's and downs and I thought if this itchy rash on my torso is as the worst it gets I am great with that.. On day 31 they are taking out my central line. My last blood count had my Hgbl at 12.4 and my ANC at 4.2 so I am still saying awesome...

Cam,

I hope the rash as a reaction to the bactrim, since switching antibiotics may be all it takes. Nobody wants GVHD of the skin, but ironically GVHD is one of the signs that a transplant is working, because it shows that your new immune system is recognizing what it considers foreign invaders -- your own body!

Let's hope this is only a small dip on the rollercoaster ride.

Yeah, don't get too concerned even if it is GVHD - acute GVHD right after transplant is pretty easy to fix. I had some awful hives about a month after transplant that was confirmed as GVHD, and that was cleared up after a week or two with topical steroids. To date, that's still the only GVHD I've ever had, so don't take this as any indication you're going to be stuck with it forever!

Cam congrats on you doing so well, I hope mine goes that smooth

Thanks everyone. It kind of itches but if this is the worst I get then I am ok with that... As long as they do not put me back in isolation, I hated that when I could not leave the room for 18 days....
