Can anyone tell me what the Survival Rate is for MDS

Need to know what the survival rate is for MDS people with High Blasts? If the stem cell transplant works, why do I keep hearing about a survival rate? Email me at: alicat0226@hotmail.com

alicat4790,

I don't think we can give you better answers than the ones in the Stem Cell Transplant thread. So much depends on the individual patient.

Transplants have risks, other treatments have risks, and doing nothing has risks. That's why it's so hard to deal with bone marrow failure diseases. The best doctors look at general statistics but also consider the specific health condition and prognosis of the patient.

Patients have a say in treatment decisions too. Some patients are willing to try riskier treatments hoping for the best possible outcome, while others want to be much more conservative and limit short-term risk.
