bone marrow failure

Hi ,
Does anyone know if you can have bone marrow failure with having only one cell to fail. My dad is now having tests done. His red cells having been going down for the past year and having transfusions. He had a heart attack and a pace maker placed in November. Now the blood issues. I have aplastic anemia. And now he is having problems with his red cells only, his platlets are normal and white cells are also normal.

I have pure red cell aplasia. It only affects my red cells. If I read the other conditions on this board correctly, sometimes they only affect one type of cell.

Since you are in Victorville, I suggest you see Dr. Paquette at UCLA.

MDS usually doesn't affect all three cells at the same time. I have primary problems with red cells. My platelets are low, but holding at 106,000. What also you need to monitor are the Hematacrit and Hemaglobin as well as the Neutrophils.

MDS - All three blood cells affects

My husband has MDS, dx Feb'09. His condition has affected all 3 types of blood cells - Whites, Reds, and Platelets.

Launch, I think your husband's situation is more typical of MDS--multiple cell lines involved at the same time. For me it was primarily platelets and reds. My white count was never that much of an issue.

Regards,
Ruth
