Blood results all normal.

We traveled to Tampa (Moffitt Cancer Center) Wednesday for follow up on blood work and to have a BMB. His blood work it excellent. Doctor said if he just looked at the results he wouldn't know anything was going on. Still waiting on results of BMB of course, but doctor suggest he move into BMT. He looks and feels better than he has in over a year. Such a frustrating disease.

BMB

Kathy,

Any results from the BMB???

Your husbands numbers look a lot like mine did in June, I also achieved remission on Dacogen in Sept/Oct with counts similar to his...

As you know I went right to Transplant, as many of the studies with positive outcomes suggest that (CR1), the first complete remission is the time to strike...

Best of luck, God Bless and Happy (and Healthier) New Year!!!

I was curious what doctor you had at Moffitt? My husbands doctor did not mention transplant until his blasts were extremely high. I kind of wish he had gone to transplant a little earlier although he is doing very well.

Katigo

Dr. Komorajhi (not quite sure of the spelling) but has written many articles on MDS.

We will move forward with BMT at least to see if there is a match since there are no siblings. Presently we are waiting to get an appointment with cardiologist to get his approval to move forward that there are no problems with the heart at this time. They will not even begin to look for a match until that is okay'd.
Best of luck and prayers to everyone going through this, their caregivers, and those that have already had BMT to continued positive returns on all of your counts and BMB. Here is to a better 2014.

Glad to hear your husband is doing so well. You said he received Vidaza at Moffitt. Did he get any other medication with it? I heard at Tampa they were combining Vidaza with Revlimid and sometimes also with dexamethasone

Before starting Vidaza. My local hematologist sent me to Weill-Cornell for a 2nd opinion. They had a clinical trial Vidaza + Voristat, and some new form of Dacogen called SGI-110. I didn't commit to any of these and was really confused with all these options. When I met with my local Hematologist and mentioned all these options he told me the indication he got was Vidaza and so I went with that. I think he said those clinical trials are more geared toward relapsed MDS but they like to get volunteers that had no treatment at all to see if it works better than the Vidaza alone. I start round 9 this Monday..another 5 days in paradise...

Actually all of his treatments (Vidaza only) are in Leesburg, FL. Dr. Komrajki follows him at Moffit Center, but Dr. Komrajki has a friend he went to school with (Dr. Hussein) that is in Leesburg, so they communicate back and forth regarding my husband (Dave). We travel to Moffit (an hour from us) for BMB and that is where the BMT would take place.
