Vidaza

For those who have been or are on Vidaza, do you get blood transfusions right after each treatment?

Not necessarily, Amy. .... I am transfused when my hemoglobin numbers are @ 7.0 or lower. Is that similar to what you're doing ??

Hi Amy, are you questioning the number of transfusions or the timing of them.

If I needed blood I would have it straight after the Vidaza and yes, I also had transfusions about every 2nd or 3rd day during the Vidaza cycle. On the first cycle I was transfused 4 out of 5 days the first week and then 3 days the next week. It really knocked my Hb around.

Regards

vidaza

Hi Amy:
I just finished 1st round of treatment. Had transfusion before I started. Counts were down on day 6. Hemoglobin at 9.9 but white blod cells down to 2. Starting to feel crappy. Not sure at what level they will think about transfusion. But from what I have read it is a very common thing. Vidaza brings counts down, then should bring them up. Keep fighting. God Bless

Thank you for the responses. They have tried giving my father vidaza and he gets really sick on the third day of treatment. He starts having trouble breathing. They are planning on trying the vidaza treatments again possibly this week.

Keep fighting

My husband was transfusion dependent until his third cycle of Vidaza, then his Hgb normalized. After 25 cycles his body no longer responded but we had 2 yrs of improved energy and optimisms makes a big difference. When he was fatigued he walked or stretched which improved his overall well being. Keep encouraging and fighting for tomorrow.:)
