More results from trials with T-cells

Hi All,
Now they report more results from the trials with T-cells that we have read about the latest years.

Hi Birgitta-A,

Thanks for posting the link. It seems many people have alreasy benefited from this.

I wonder how gene therapy can work for MDS, and if and when it can be offered as a potential treatment option.

For low risk MDS, there is very little in the pipeline of treatment options, even though majority of MDS is low risk.

Thx Birgetta

I think because MDS is so rare there just isn't a lot of incentive monetary wise to get the interest of more scientists and drug companies to focus on it. The drug companies go by revenue per patient, so the population of leukemia patients, and other diseases is much more profitable. Sounds cold but that's the reality of it. You wont hear our President declare a war on MDS anytime soon..Hopefully one of these agents by chance will work for MDS patients.

sbk007, you are spot on.

MDS

Hi Mseth and sbk007,
As far as I understand this method could be used in many types of cancer. They don't have to show the effect in every type but work with the method until it is approved. My sister who had colon cancer was offered to participate in a trial with targeted T-cells 2008.

I spoke to UPENN recently and they indicated that they are at least several months away from even trying this on MDS/AML.

MDS

Hi Dan,
Yes, it will probably take years before MDS patients could try this method if it is working but we will have to wait just as long time for all new drugs they are trying now too (if they are working).
Kind regards

Estybon

Hi all,

In the ASCO update on MDS Beacon, there is some positive news on Estybon, for low risk transfusion dependent showing 50% success rate. Is this something to look forward to in the near future?

Rigosertib (Estybon)

Hi Mseth,
The drug Rigosertib iv is now in a Phase 3 trial as a second line drug for higher risk MDS. This means that they have to finish the trial and that the trial should show good effects/better effects than other second line treatments for these patients. They hope that the trial will be finished in the spring 2014. Then they have to write to FDA for approval and wait for answer - that will take many months.

Then they have oral Rigosertib for lower risk MDS. This drug is only in a Phase 2 trial and we don't know when this trial and the Phase 3 trial will be finished.

Phase 2 Rigosertib

Hi Birgitta-A,

Is there any information on the phase 2 study for the oral drug from forum members who have enrolled and who have shared their experience?

Birgitta-A Wed Dec 18, 2013 12:42 PM

Rigosertib, Estybon or ON 01910
