Transfusion when away from home

How do you all set up getting a transfusion when you are traveling from home? We will be several states away and need to set something up so we can visit family. Dr office said to contact relative's doctor and go from there. I am thinking of contacting a hospital and ask there how to proceed. But I'm wondering if someone here has already figured this out.

If you go to the same place every year, that would be different. This would be a one time thing. Thanks.

Can't speak for the US of course, but in Australia, I think it would depend on the individual haem-onc specialist. I was blessed to have someone who was prepared to organise infusions for me in different hospitals all over Australia for 18 months while we were being grey nomads in our campervan. My responsibility was to let her know 2 weeks ahead which hospital I would be attending and the details for the specialist she would need to fax with my details. She would then contact the Red Cross to organise the infusion and the hospital to organise a chair for me.

I suggest two steps:
  1. Ask your doctor for a prescription for the treatment, i.e., for transfusions if needed.

  2. Ask your insurance company where you can receive the prescribed transfusion in the particular city you will be visiting.
