Tacrolimus vs Sirolimus

Hi,

I'm 10 months post MUD BMT. After some complications (inc. splenectomy) I'm doing well, the worst symptom now being leg swelling (not all the time but most days I get some). I looked up my meds to see if they're causing it and find that peripheral edema is listed as a side-effect of sirolimus in 58% of patients while tacrolimus is lower at 12-36% (figures from Micromedex). I'm currently on 4mg of siro a day, with no tacro (stopped about 6 weeks ago). I'm reasonably fit and didn't have any edema prior to transplant.

As far as I can see, it is starting to make sense to switch from sirolimus to tacrolimus, especially as siro has a high co-pay.

Has anyone had any experience of doing this switch? Interested to hear also from anyone who has had post-transplant peripheral edema.

Best to all,
Peter

me too

Hi

I am 7 months post-transplant and on tacrolimus 3 mg/day. About six weeks ago my ankles and feet started swelling. My Oncologist doesn't seem concerned but it seems to be getting worse. I am going to discuss it with her on Friday when I see her. Let me know if you find anything that helps.

Michelle
