I was found to have some blood issues when hospitalized for Cdiff in April. I know that Cdiff can easily attach someone with bone marrow or blood issues. Is there any correlation between Cdiff and individuals showing bone marrow problems later? The toxins from the newest version of Cdiff are extremely toxic to the whole body. Thoughts?

I have wondered about a gut-bone marrow connection myself, as I have a 20 year history of gut problems and now suspected MDS. Entirely feasible that there could be a toxin produced by bad bowel bacteria that could affect the health of bone marrow, as do other drugs.

I have googled this quite a bit, there doesn't seem to be much research being done on it :-(

this is interesting since I just read about a woman that had recurring cdiff...the cure.....fecal transplant. her mother graciously donated. of course it goes thru procedures before the transplant but it kills the cdiff. maybe google cdiff and fecal transplant.

Yes, I have done some looking at the fecal transplant info. I was worried initially that I might get reoccuring Cdiff. The transplants do work to stop the reoccurance. I have been using probiotics and lots of kefir which has done the job for me. I doubt that anyone really gets rid of Cdiff even with the transplant. An otherwise healthy bacterial load keeps the Cdiff in check. I know that if you get a GI upset, they recommend NOT testing for Cdiff as you are surely a Cdiff carrier and will test positive. Yet, your GI problem may be due to eating contaminated food which has nothing to do with Cdiff.

I am wondering whether the toxin level during an active overload can damage the bone marrow system. The newest version of Cdiff produces 10x the levels of the previous types. The toxin causes serious overall illness not just the diarrhea which leads to dehydration. The toxin can cause a hole in the colon. For people over 65 fatalities are very common. The number of cases has increased dramatically in the last 12-16 months. CDC issued a warning re Cdiff back in early April.

There is a certain irony if I survived Cdiff only to be a MDS fatality.
