Webcast on Advances in Umbilical Cord Blood Transplantation

BMTInfoNet will host a webcast entitled "Update on the Advances in Umbilical Cord Transplantation" presented by Dr. Patrick Stiff, Loyola University Medical Center, Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center, on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 4:00-5:00 PM Central Daylight Time.

The program is designed for anyone who is considering a cord blood transplant or wants to know more about this new technology. Dr. Stiff will discuss the following:
  • why transplants are used in the treatment of patients with hematologic disorders
  • the reason why cord blood units do not need to be as closely matched to the patient’s tissue type as cells from an adult donor
  • how cord blood matches are selected and the limitations of this type of transplant in the adult population
  • the major complications associated with cord blood transplants
  • the results of transplantation in patients with various hematologic disorders
  • new research in cord blood transplantation using double cord blood units and ex vivo methods to expand the number of patients who can benefit from this potentially life saving therapy
To participate in this webcast you need only a computer, an Internet connection, and a telephone. Directions are provided at the registration website.
