Diabetics

Just wanted to know the occurrence of diabetics after a transplant?
Thanks in advance.

Hi, Alex.

I don't know if you still have need for this information, but since you asked about diabetes after transplant, I thought I'd tell you what I know. Steroid-induced diabetes after transplant is fairly common. Prednisone is a glucocorticoid that actually counteracts insulin. This make the pancreas work even harder to keep blood sugars normal. Long periods of steroid use can lead to diabetes when the pancreas can no longer handle the load. Once the steroid is stopped, blood sugars usually come back down to normal.

When you have a chance, let us know how you're doing.

Regards,
Ruth
