Hi gang, I have been away for awhile. We took Mark m(My husband down to pitts hospital) cause of very low counts all around WBC 1.2.. RBC..2.2HMG.8.1 Platletts..20 Nutraphil .1..... Vidaza stopped working after about 1 year.. He now has blasts of 15%... They want to start him on Dacogin tomorrow.. He can't have Neupogen (he is allergic,It gave him sweets).... Is this the right thing to do with the Dacogin....
He had 2 units blood and platletts in the last 2 days..I just dont know what to do..
MDS-RAEB-1....but I think he's the next step now.. He's in the critical zone..
They have some potential donors,(that's the imprssion I got) but there is so much waiting for test and such on them....
I think they want to use Dacogin to get his levels up... thank you sooo much

Hey Danielle!

Sorry to hear about Mark's sliding counts.

My transplant doc at Wake Forest was planning to give me Vidaza to get rid of cytogenetic abnormalities prior to transplant. If that didn't work, she said, we'd try Dacogen. She seemed to feel that Dacogen was a bit stronger or, at least, would sometimes work when Vidaza didn't.

Like Vidaza, it's likely to make his counts worse before it makes them better.

I hope they can find him donor with good speed.

Good luck!

Greg
