I have wondered about a gut-bone marrow connection myself, as I have a 20 year history of gut problems and now suspected MDS. Entirely feasible that there could be a toxin produced by bad bowel bacteria that could affect the health of bone marrow, as do other drugs.

I have googled this quite a bit, there doesn't seem to be much research being done on it :-(
