Even though alcohol does not cause MDS, it does cause deficiencies of the vitamins needed for proper blood production and nerve health. Specifically, the B vitamins. (B1 B2, B3, B6,B12 and Folate)
If your B12 is in the mid-normal range, you may want to consider taking a good B-complex.
