Seconding Marlene here, our experience has been that not all hematologists are equally knowledgable.

Deficiencies in the vitamins and minerals she listed can mimic bone marrow disease, so it's important to rule those out first. Your regular family doctor could order those tests.

A bone marrow biopsy, by the way, is a diagnostic tool, it is not treatment. It is actually one of the ways MDS is ruled in or out.
