The doctor may decide to give your father something called G-CSF, which stands for granulocyte colony-stimulating factor. A common G-CSF is filgrastim, sold in the U.S. under the trade name Neupogen. It's injected.

There are other drugs that work similarly to boost your body's own white cell production.
