Can Drugs/Transfusions interfer with BMT success?

I am new to Marrowforums. I am a 50 year old female, and I was diagnosed May 2011 with Hypoplastic MDS with an IPSS score of 1. Cytogenetics showed 2 abnormalities on chromosome 15, blasts less than 5%,and all 3 blood counts are low. Currently at a watch and wait status. On the registry for a MUD with a potential transplant at Princess Margaret in Toronto.
Other than fatigue and slight shortness of breath I am living a normal life.

My first referral was to a team of doctors in London, Ontario and their first suggestion was a BMT because I was young and strong and it is the only cure. The specialist in MDS, at Princess Margaret suggested drugs and transfusions would be the next course of action. My question deals with the timing of things. . . . since I am young and strong I don't want to delay the BMT, but on the other hand it has serious risks! If I use some of the drugs and transfusions does it interfer with a successful BMT, and with the delay I become a bit weaker?

Currently my counts aren't quite low enough to need treatment, and there isn't a match found yet. I am just wondering what is the ideal pathway to follow for the greatest chance of success.
