It is easy to understand that you are frustrated.
Supportive therapy for MDS patients include platelet transfusions and Neupogen injections when they are needed. Look at treatment in this info from this site:

Then I wonder if your mother really is getting whole blood not packed red blood cells (PRBC). It is very uncommon and not OK for MDS patients.
