Question SSD

Has anyone out there tried to get on social sucruity disablity for our MDS?

If you search these forums for the word "disability" you'll find a few discussions about it.

You might also review the Social Security Administration's Disability Starter Kits. They don't tell which diseases are covered but you can make sure you qualify otherwise, if there's any question about it.

Hello Vince,
I have not tried to get disability, and I could be wrong, but I believe if you have chronic anemia with an hematocrit less than 30 and require red blood cell transfusions on an average of once every 2 months then you may be eligible to apply. I believe platelets have to be less than 40,000 and you have to have had a spontaneous hemorrhage requiring platelet transfusion. In other words, you have to be in pretty bad shape before you are eligible. You are eligible also if you have to have a BMT or SCT. Good luck
