Waterproof dressings
Hi,
A couple of weeks ago I developed a fever and because of my neutropenia I have been on IV antibiotics. I go into daycare daily for these to be administered. My port is left accessed and the needle has been changed every 3 days. I have developed an allergy to all three types of waterproof covering that is used by the centre. I'm now allergic to Opsite, Tegaderm and IV 3000. I have been left with blisters on the skin around my port site. The nursing staff now cover my needle with a sterile gauze dressing but it means that I can't get it wet. I still shower (don't have a bath at my house) but I often get the dressing wet despite being very careful. Hair washing is a nightmare. Does anyone know of another type of adhesive waterproof dressing that I may be able to purchase myself and take along to the centre for them to use? Alternatively has anyone got any suggestions on how to keep a port site dry in the shower? My fever is subsiding but then my Vidaza cycle will be due again shortly after the antibiotics finish so my port will need to be accessed for a while yet. I'd appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Thanks for that Laura.
They did use another form of Tegaderm and that seems to be working okay. Today is my last day of IV antibiotics and then I'm FREE, FREE, FREE for 13 days until the start of my next Vidaza cycle. I won't know what to do with myself. Thanks again.
