tooth cavity and bleeding??

My mom has a tooth that needed a new filling. It bled a little bit before she came down with this low platelet issue. Now it has started bleeding but because she is on Amicar is clots but the clots are all over her teeth and she wakes up with blood clots in her mouth. Does anyone have any ideas how she can help make this a little less uncomfortable? She isn't eating and she is having some problems brushing her teeth. They gave her those little sponge tooth brushes but she is afraid to even open her mouth. Anyone have any suggestions???

Ask the Dr about "magic mouthwash". Different formulations but the mouthwash will help with the soreness, it typically has lidocane or some other topical pain killer. Amicar is great but inside the mouth it makes the blood gooey and it really feels odd. It really is not fun having low platelets.

Thank you. Usually it goes away but she has had this for a day or two and it makes her nervouse because she can't tell if it's the blood clot or if she is actually bleeding. We're still so new to this disease. It's a learn as you go thing.

I asked the doctor about the mouthwash and he had no idea what we were talking about. The pharmacist said there is something called Aminocaproic Acid Syrup that can be diluted and used as a mouth rinse previous to dental surgery. It really is annoying because on her meds list they listed Amicar as an oral rinse but she takes the tablets so I don't understand why he didn't know what we were talking about. Any info you can give me on the "magic mouthwash" would be helpful. Thank you!

Grifmat,
It's called Klack's (sometimes Klax) solution. There are different formulas. Ask your pharmacist - they'll know about it.
God Bless,
Sally
