Transplant Question
Hi All,
Have any of you that are getting (or have gotten) transplants transformed to AML ever in your disease course? Or, are you never transformed cases? Thanks, Kat |

Yes, I was diagnosed with MDS -RAEB 2 in feb 2012, progressed to AML in nov 2012. Had round one of induction chemo in Nov/Dec, round two in Jan 2013 and had my transplant on 6th of March 2013. It was a reduced intensity transplant with only an 8/10 match!! Apparently, I was a little more "special" than I thought!! I recently asked my doctor why I didn't have a full transplant & he responded "because it would of killed you!".. I was a little sick going into transplant!

Do you know where the 2 mismatches were? Do you have any GVHD? Did they use Cytoxan day 3 & 4 post transplant to decrease GVHD? |

The question I have is, "Are all 10/10 matches equal"? I understand that the 25 year old is a better situation than a 45 year old. I just found out my younger brother is not a match, but they said they quickly found four matches. They didn't say whether they were 10/10 matches.

We have been told they look for the healthiest, youngest male they can find. Someone in early 20's ideal.

Hi, no I don't know where my mismatch is.. I never really asked.. Didn't seem much point as this was my only choice & really I already had so many odds against me, I didn't won't to know if there were more!!
I have had a little bit of gvhd but honestly I have been very lucky. Had some gvhd on my skin that quickly cleared up with cream & steroids and some stomach issues that quickly cleared with steroids too. But that was very early on. Had some in mouth but really hasn't caused any dramas. Dr said I might have had a bit in my liver but hard to say if it was or just that my liver didn't like the cyclosporin. I have weaning steadily for awhile now and down to 50 mg morning and night. I am not sure about cytoxan.. I don't think so. I had methotrexate (something like that) on some days after transplant which they said causes the mucositus. Sorry, my memory is terrible now. I was pretty out of it! It was an injection in Line then they another to counteract it or something?
