Rituximab

So I have read of cases in which doctors are treating with rituximab patients with aplastic anemia and in one case in particular PNH. There was one study that was done on a 17 year old female while she was pregnant. She presented with both severe aplastic anemia and PNH. The treatment followed by two years of follow up put her into remission of aplastic anemia and decreased her clone size dramatically. Now doctors are saying it is worth looking into. Im messaging from my phone, but when I get the chance I will post the links, some from the NIH.

The 2012 journal article is Response of Paroxysmal Nocturnal Hemoglobinuria Clone with Aplastic Anemia to Rituximab by Dr. Radha Raghupathy and Dr. Olga Derman from the Montefiore Medical Center.

They suggested that rituximab could be a less toxic treatment for PNH associated with aplastic anemia than immunosuppression or transplants.

Thanks Neil, really appreciate what information you can elaborate on with these conditions. I am hoping that it is something I could try, the prednisone regiment is getting old quickly with less and less effect and more relapses than I care to discuss.

I received rituximab for GVHD following a stem cell trans. I am not aware of its use for PNH, but I have not researched the issue. I will ask my PNH doc when I see her in a few weeks.

I asked my PNH doc about Rituximab for PNH. She said that it's usually only used when other treatments don't work. As I stated in my earlier post, I got Rituximab for GVHD, not before my trans. Good luck to evryone
