Chlorsig eye drops
Hi, just wondering if you have been warned against using chlorsig eye drops 0.5%? I have a gunky right eye, went and got drops from pharmacy.. got home and read "do not use if you have bone marrow supression".
Very annoying as I've used this post transplant a couple of times! Thanks, Lisa

Lisa,
The active ingredient is chloramphenicol, which is known to cause aplastic anemia, lower blood counts (red cells, white cells, and platelets), and has been reported to cause PNH as well. I believe it was taken off the market in the U.S. for that reason, but continues to be available in Australia. You'll need to find another type of eye drops. I'm glad you spotted that warning. |

Thank you for the warning. I used Chlorsig recently for an eye infection and have done so several times since being diagnosed with MDS.

Hi Neil, thanks for the reply! I actually emailed my transplant nurse. He said the consultant was ok with me continuing it... but I think I'll give it a miss!
Cheryl its amazing how many drugs affect your bone marrow isn't it :/

Maybe the consultant is thinking about how important it is to protect your eyes. But I hope they can recommend another brand of eye drops for you to use.

I'm usually very careful to read all the info about drugs, but because I've used Chlorsig over so many years, neglected to do this recently. A lesson learned!
