Azacitidine and platelet infusion

Hi all,

My Mums platelets were at 35 before the first cycle of azacitidine that finished 2 weeks ago.... She has been rushed in for a platelet infusion today... Just wondering if this is normal? Does it take this long for her numbers to go lower?

With azacitidine my platelets would be at their lowest 11 to 15 days after the last day. They would not start azacitidine if my platelets were below 50 unless they cut the dosage.

This definitely sounds normal to me. If your Mum's platelets were 35 before the azacitidine then it would likely result in them getting pretty low after treatment. (before they hopefully go up but it can take a few cycles to see an improvement)

At my Mum's clinic they transfuse platelets when they fall under 10 and she got several platelet transfusions during azacitidine treatment.
