Port Pain

I have been having pain under my Bard port. It feels as if there is a staple or suture or something under the port which presses into the underlying muscle when the outer lumen is used or when any pressure is put on the outer part of the port. My medical team seems to have never heard this complaint before. Something is clearly wrong. I do not want it removed, I just want this pain issue resolved. It works great.

Any ideas?

Have you had a portogram? I had pain in mine with every infusion (I had a 9 year old port) for about four months. Finally my Doctor ordered a chest X-ray and told me I had pneumonia and I had a course of intravenous antibiotics. I thought that was odd as it only hurt when my port was used, I had no fever and no funny breath sounds. Fast forward a couple more months and I still got the pain and insisted I have some investigations so I had a portogram which showed my port catheter had cracked and was leaking into the chest cavity. I had it removed and replaced in X-ray a few days later. I haven’t had a problem since then.

I hope you get answers.

Carol

Thanks Carol. I am not sure yet what they plan to do. It is a new port, put in just 2 months ago. One of the oncology nurses suggested possibly it is on a nerve. My CNP is contacting IVR qho put the port in.
