Post White Blood Count & Platelets

Does anyone beside me just have problems with their WBC. and Platelets? My RBC. and HGB. pretty much stay in the normal range. The HGB. has been down to 11.5 one time this whole year.

I hd my labs done today, two weeks after my first week of infusions of Dacogen. as always the WBC. and Platelets drop but, they will start back up soon after my 2nd. week of infusions. today's counts were WBC-1.1 Neu.-0.13 RBC.-12.3 and PLT--30 Aug. 20th. I will start my 2nd. week.

Hi, Kert.

I think it's unusual for an MDS patient to have a relatively good Hemoglobin count like you do. I presume you are not transfusion-dependent. Is that right?

I was lucky that my white count remained pretty high (in the 4's and 5's) before my transplant, so I was at less risk for infections. With such low WBC, you must have to be very careful about exposure to crowds in public places or even to family members with colds.

Good luck with your second week of Dacogen. Keep us posted.

Regards,
Ruth

Hi Ruth

I have never had a transfusion because of MDS. I was in the hospital for lung surgery and had to have 2 pints but that was because of the loss of blood during surgery. thanks for your reply...........

Kert,

I am curious what type of MDS you have. Do you have any chromomsomal abnormalities? My RBC's are the only ones really affected. My other lines look funny, but the counts are good.

Zoe

Cool Hi Zoe

I am MDS Intermediate stage. I've ask several questions about the blast and etc. but from what I understand they will have to do another bone marrow bio. to tell me the answers.
