Question Has anyone connected MDS with fighting in wars?

My husband was a Marine mortar shell ground man in WW11 in the Pacific, and fought at Iwo Jima. He also was in Korea, and was wounded by mortar shells, hospitalized for 9 months, and was receiving 70% service disability pay. He received many medals including the Purple Heart. He was diagnosed with MDS in 2004, had a rough two years, many many transfusions, and passed in 2006 at the age of 80. His doctor has mentioned the white phosphorous in the mortar shells, could have caused the MDS. Is there anyone out there whose husband or wife may have served in the military and also got MDS? Trying to put two and two together. The bill in Congress by Representative Matsui, is for Bone Marrow Research and has received funds to try and find the cause of this horrible disease. Her husband, who died of MDS, was a military man, and I am trying to contact her office to see if she is of the opinion that her husband may have gotten MDS from fighting in the war. I would be interested in hearing from any of you. Thank you.
