I think this is a solicitation for proposals to implement the study, not an announcement that it's been arranged. The proposal is to study 2500 patients in the U.S. and gather data that can potentially be used to
  1. identify genetic, epigenetic and biological factors associated with initiation and progression of MDS

  2. uncover fundamental information on the changes that occur in hematopoietic stem cells and bone marrow stroma during normal aging

  3. reveal clinically useful biomarkers

  4. identify potential targets for new interventions

  5. facilitate understanding of how patients with MDS are managed in practice
Although there is already data in each of these areas, their goal is to collect it systematically and consistently to make the results most easily applied.

Amendments 1 & 2...

Just to update, Amendments 1 & 2 have been issued to date. These mainly clarify RFP Q&As and confirm it will study "adults" only. The 2000(w/MDS) - 500(w/o) patients and cohorts will be studied over a five-year period. End due dates for Q&A (June 14th) and submissions (July 3rd) have been extended.
