New MDS, new to forum.
Hi y'all. I am new to this forum, 73 yrs old, was referred by the AA&MDS Foundation.
I was diagnosed with MDS in Feb. 2006 and get treatment from the VA. My last CBC showed hematocrit at 33.5 and hg at 10.8, but at the present time the hematoligist has NOT recommended any treatment. Doc says he wants the numbers lower before starting anything. Hasn't even done a bone marrow biopsy, but sure he "knows" what it is. I can't go on Procrit because of other heart conditions. Trust me, I am suffering and some days don't even have the energy to tie my shoes. I am not too good at words to expalin what I am going through, but I am sure you guys know. Today I called the VA and asked if I could get a referral to Moffitt as I only have VA and Medicare coverage. Thanks in advance for any help and advice. Dick S

Dick;
I can believe you don't have a lot of energy some days with hgb at 10.8 My husband's as been running below 10, now about 8.7 for several months. He has good days and bad days and some days more energy. He is 76 but even on bad days tries to get out and walk every day. Amazed doc hasn't done bone marrow biopsy for definite diagnosis. Hang in there. Joan |
