Transplant for MDS

My 25 year old son was diagnosed with MDS in Jan. He will be admitted to Sloan Kettering June 23rd for a transplant. They found more than 20 donors and only tested 3. Two of them were perfect matches. His counts are good even after his final (third) round of chemo 2 weeks ago. He was on Dacogen which kept his counts way up. We are very optimistic that the transplant will be effective and he and his fiance can continue their wedding plans. Good luck to all who are dealing with this disease. Will pray for everyone along with my son.

Hi, Donna.

Welcome to Marrowforums. Your son's diagnosis must have been quite a shock to everyone given his relatively young age. It's interesting to know that he responded to Dacogen. Do you know what subtype of MDS he has and whether he has any chromosome abnormalities? Having multiple perfect matches for transplant is remarkable and bodes well for his recovery.

Let us know if we can help by answering any questions for you and, please, keep us posted on your son's progress.

Regards,
Ruth Cuadra
