On February 10, 2009, the U.S. Senate approved its version of the Economic Stimulus Bill. This legislation includes a bipartisan amendment adopted by the Senate and sponsored by Senators Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Arlen Specter (R-PA) to include $10 billion for the National Institutes of Health. The House-passed version of the Economic Stimulus Bill includes only a $3.5 billion increase for NIH.
Funding for NIH is critically important for bone marrow failure disease research.
Marrowforums urges forum members in the U.S. to contact their Representative and Senators to ask them to support this amendment with the $10 billion appropriation for the NIH.
