Transplant Underway - Day T-7
My transplant journey has begun. I've had the Hickman put in on Tuesday, the first four rounds of Busulfan, and started today off with another round of Busulfan and two units of red cells.
Eleven more rounds of Busulfan and then a day of rest. So far no problems and the food is actually pretty good. My MDS story can be seen at www.caringbridge.org/visit/jeffbeck visitors welcome.

Way to go, Jeff! I read your caringbridge journal and just can't believe you're still eating after all that Bulsufan. My appetite shut down completely during my transplant (I had TBI and cytoxan). Your positive attitude and sense of humor will help carry you through.

Round 8 done!
Ruth,
They lowered the dose at round 7, because of the effectiveness the Busulfan was having. 8 more to go. My next set following a day off after the Busulfan will be two days of Cytoxan. How did the Cytoxan effect you? Regards, Jeff

Effects of Cytoxan
Jeff,
I was plenty scared at the prospect of having cytoxan, but it turned out to be one of the least-eventful steps in the whole transplant process. Maybe it was the fact that I'd gotten through 11 TBI treatments, which made me sicker than I've ever been in my life, that made the cytoxan seem anti-climactic. I had an easy time with it. Have a cupcake for me today--it's the 8th anniversary of my transplant! Regards, Ruth

hi jeff and ruth,
i can only speak on behalf of what i witnessed from my son having cytoxin. he was very sick - poor love. the problem i found was unplugging his 3 drip machines so that he could get to the bathroom very quickly. he flat out refused to use bedpans. he built up a scoring system and gave us points on how quick we could unplug his drips and chase him to the bathroom!  however, according to him, the vomitting etc., was nothing compared to how ill ATG made him feel. i think he had just gotten so used to vomitting. best of luck jeff - keep up the good spirits. ruth, huge congratulations. i'll skip the cupcake and take a glass of wine, if you don't mind  gina xxx
