Fever, Stomach upset and high level of sugar
Hi
I am new to the forum. My mom is dxgnsed with MDS two years back and is transfusion dependent. Almost 2 packs every 10 days is her frequency. So far she has undergone 90 packs. three days after her second pack she developed high fever. Her glucose levels shot upto 480. Physician had put her on IV today with antibiotics and insulin. Appears that she is also having gastritis as She is complaining of pain in the stomach. Is this situation common for all MDS patients who are dependent on transfusion. ? Pl help me by answering the above situation pl. She had gone thru Lenominide and later stopped by her Hemo as they were not working on her. He said he would ATG in a few days. |

When I started, I would develop a high fever, they fixed that with pre meds. I have had 346 units with no side effects, sine the pre meds

Hi, has your mother got a high ferritin level? What are they using to reduce iron overload?
If your mum has high iron in her pancreas she could develop diabetes. Have the doctors ordered an amylase/lipase blood test? These are the only things I can think of, sorry. Chirley |
