Hands-free water faucet concern

Thought I'd share this article since this is more important for those with compromised immune systems. Apparently, these hands-free faucet can harbor bacteria like Legionnaire's and when inhaled, can cause lung infections in those who are weakened by disease or chemo.

We use a shower filter and always let the shower run with hot water for a couple of minutes before stepping in to wash out any bacteria that may be present between use.

It seems counterintuitive at first, but the explanation is that the more complicated faucets have valves and other parts with crevices where moisture can collect and bacteria can grow.

Live and learn.
