Thumbs up Interesting Article

I ran across this article and thought it was interesting. Granted it is a small study (519 patients).

Cheers

Data,

This looks like an excellent in-depth study of transplant outcomes and the factors that can predict success or failure.

In addition to the IPSS-R scoring system, they looked at a classification called monsomal karyotype (MK), which means that the patient has either
  • multiple chromosomes that are missing 1 of its pair.
  • one chromosome that is missing 1 of its pair AND a structural abnormality.
They found that IPSS-R was a good predictor of transplant outcomes, except that MK patients had a far worse expected outcome.

They also found that HGB < 8 was a better evaluative cutoff than HGB < 10 for classifying a patient's anemia.
