Mayo Clinic Rochester MN---MDS

Hello everyone! Just wanted to see how many people are being treated at Mayo Clinic in Rochester? I have an appointment next week, long travel for me but I hope it will be worth it! I am 38 years old diagnosed with MDS 5Q- in June of last year. Not having any treatment yet just "wait and watch". I have upper left side pain that my doctor has not been able to figure out so that is why I plan to go to Mayo. HOPING they can figure it out!

Good Luck @Mayo

If you look at there are many areas that treat MDS closer to home. Good Luck though. If you understand the function of the human body your spleen is a filter for your blood and it is located left upper side. My husband has MDS and probably had it for years before being diagnosed. The wait and see is best in the beginning. Once you start treatment you can't really stop. As long as your counts are holding that's good news.
have a safe trip and let us know how your evaluation went.

I am being treated at Mayo Clinic. I had a transplant this past June for aplastic anemia. Do you plan to see the hematology department? Which doctor?

Hi Laura! I am going to be seen in Hematolgy Dept by Animesh Pardanani next week. I'm excited and scared at the same time, just really want to figure out my upper left side pain. I do have a mildly enlarged spleen and I feel that is my problem however my doctor here does not. Hope Mayo knows!

Good luck. I hope they can figure things out for you. Are you flying into the Rochester airport? Rochester is a great city. Where are you staying? Laura
