stress and mds

my dad has been really stressed this past week. I know he is in need of a transfusion but he seems alot weaker and more tired than normal. could stress cause mds to progress faster? His sister died unexpectedly this week. I know it is heavy on his mind.

I'm sorry to hear that you have lost your aunt. With all that's going on your dad's stress may be a normal reaction. It's also normal to feel tired when you need a whole blood transfusion, but you can probably sense if it's more than that.

We can all feel stressed when bad things happen, like the loss a family member, or when we are worried about what lies ahead. Temporarily higher stress may raise your dad's blood pressure and cause other symptoms but it will not affect his bone marrow.

However, ongoing stress is not heathful and can affect our ability to cope with and recover from diseases of all kinds. If you think it's become a longer-term issue for your dad, I suggest checking with his treatment center since they probably have a department or a specialist who can help you address it.

I was diagnosed with MDS in 2007 ( Low Plalettes and White Cells).. right now plalettes are at 25...
I am also on sick leave due to stress work related.
It seems everytime I am on holidays - I am more relaxed an plalettes seem to go up... I get tested prior to coming back home.
After two weeks back we can see a change on my plalettes - after a month they are back to 20+s.
Coincidence???? I don't know

thank you so much for the responses. He just seems to have lost his will maybe. Not really sure but definitely weaker and yes that could and probably has alot to do with needing more blood. he gets at least 2 units every 2 weeks and is to get more tuesday I think. then see his dr in 2 more weeks. of course getting blood at the hospital we don't see the lab results so I will get those in 2 more weeks.

Dad has declined rapidly over the last few days. He is having his transfusions tomorrow but he is very weak. Tonight he told me he thinks his time is very short now. I know that people sense that but dang it is hard to hear. please keep him in your prayers.

thanks hon. I am not sure of Dad's labs today other than his bloodcount was 7.3 normally it is around 8 every 2 weeks so it seems it is getting worse as suspected.
