Studying Red Blood Cells with a Supercomputer

I was impressed to read about research going on at Brown University and at ETH Zurich in Switzerland.

They are using supercomputers to simulate red cells in the bloodstream, as a way to study drug delivery methods for different diseases. They say this will help doctors predict, diagnose, and treat several mysterious hematological diseases. Rather than test drugs, as medical researchers do, they are using mathematics to study the mechanisms that affect how drugs work.

You can read about it here:

This is really fascinating! Thank you for sharing! It makes sense that advanced mathematics will be able to help solve the puzzle of blood diseases - it seems like almost all of science & nature can be explained by mathematics in some way.
