Vidaza and nausea

Perhaps this has been mentioned before, but when is the usual problem for nausea during treatments with Vidaza? I take a pill one hour before treatments and I have been taking one before bedtime. Not sure if I need one at bedtime, but I don't want any surprises during the night. So far I have been fine, but I don't want to take these pills if it is usually not necessary.

Thumbs up

Baily,
My husband takes one about an hour before his treatments and he does fine except he does get headaches after his treatments. Nothing in the evening, but I would not like to guide you wrong, everyone is different and have different reactions. Good luck with the Vidaza.

When I was taking Dacogen (pretty much like Vidaza), the anti-nausea drug (IV kiteril) they gave me was worse than the Dacogen...

The 1st round made me constipated, couldn't go to the bathroom for four days... Used Miralax and it helped...

The 2nd round started Miralax the day before Dacogen, and I asked that they alternate days on the Kiteril (M-W-F)

So in the end, I really didn't need the extra anti-nausea...

Thank you. This is all very new to me. I went in the ER for a kidney stone attack four weeks ago. The routine blood test showed low on platelets(22), wbc(2.9), rbc(3.45) and hgb(12.0). 9-11 percent blasts. BMB showed no chromosome abnormalities. It comes out to RAEB-II. I'm 67 years old and never been admitted to a hospital. I think that might be changing. I am on my 4th day, first cycle of Vidaza. Thank all of you for the very good information.

I've finished my second cycle of Vidaza and I have been taking a low dose Zofran about an hour before injections. I take it by injection sub cutaneous in the belly. One day I forgot to take the Zofran and I paid for that with an afternoon of vomiting. So I learned the hard way that the Zofran was very effective and I have not noticed any side effects of it.

Diver down,

Your experience mirrors mine except I haven't forgot. Thank you for reinforcing that I need to take it. The first couple of days I took the nausea medicine for 24 hours but have backed off to just the eight hours during the injection.

I took only one Zofran orally before each Vidaza treatment. My recommendation is to try skipping the one at night - if you star feeling queasy, you can always take it then. Zofran for me was very constipating so I took as little as possible. I had lots of nausea post transplant and Ativan worked better for that; however, when I had my post-transplant Vidaza treatments, I tried replacing the Zofran and it didn't work. So, I took Zofran daily during treatment weeks and Ativan the rest of the time, as needed.
