New here

Hi everyone this looks like a great place to get and share info. My story is that I was dx in April 2001 thru bmb as mds monocytic (red), RARS I believe. I've been doing well and dx itself was satisfying to find out it wasn't in my head after seeing at least 4 specialists. Progress of the disease was minimal until the last year when hemo went low. Tried aranesp with some progress but not seen as satisfactory. Now taking aranesp every 3 weeks and neupogen 3x a week. Initially scores and energy improved remarkably. Now the roller coaster is on the way down again but better than at its worst. An interesting battle continues with more good than bad following the direction of a good and communicative doctor and close monitoring. Wondering if there is anyone else who has gone thru a session of aranesp and neupogen together. Good luck to all in this fight.

Aranesp & Neupogen Together.

Hi Perry:

Since Aranesp and Neupogen are both Hematopoietic Growth Factors (stimulating red blood cells and white blood cells respectively), they are often prescribed together when you have both anemia and leukopenia. Oddly enough, Neupogen often stimulates hemoglobin as well as neutrophils (a nice side affect). These are prescribed briefly on my MDS web site.

By the way, welcome to Marrowforums! And you're right, it's a great place to learn from people who have gone before us.

Regards,
