New drug in trial Siltuximab

Hi all,
Now they have started a new trial for low risk MDS patients with anemia.

The drug is a monoclonal antibody called Siltuximab and is targeting Interleukin-6 that acts as both a pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory cytokine. It is secreted by T cells and macrophages to stimulate immune response.

It is a multicenter study carried out in 48 locations in many countries.

Kind regards

I just watched a Webinar with Dr. David Steensma and he talked about this drug. Interesting about the connection between MDS and IL-6.

Thanks Brigitta, this is very interesting. Looking forward to see the results of Phase 2.

Interleukin 6 inhibitor

Hi Ric,
You know the drugs you and I have been taking - Revlimid and Thalidomide - should inhibit Interleukin 6 but they both have many other effects too.
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/20307255

Siltuximab is supposed to inhibit Interleukin 6 without other effects as far as I understand.
Kind regards
